At its annual COPSWEST meeting, CPOA’s Board of Directors reviewed and approved the association’s 2018 Legislative Platform & Priorities. Each Fall, the Law & Legislation Committee discusses and proposes a set of legislative and policy categories to focus on when the Legislature returns for business after the New Year. Our lobbying efforts then focus on these priorities, which represent the biggest legislative impacts to the public safety profession. 2018’s priorities extend many of the concerns conveyed in 2017, as well as propose new categories of focus.
Given the recent criminal trends, CPOA added an entire new section devoted to “Controlled Substances,” which includes points on opioid and marijuana usage, and expanded the “Crimes & Criminal Reform,” section.
