Course Description

This updated course enhances the capabilities of FTO’s, Corporals, Sergeants, and Team Leaders* responsible for the resolution of critical incidents in a patrol environment.  It will strengthen the student’s knowledge, skills & techniques to successfully initiate a credible action plan to handle various critical incidents, and to be able to communicate and justify your actions in a post-incident critique.  This course may reduce litigation when supporting department actions in these highly litigated events.

*Ranks in control of the immediate stabilization of a crisis in the field

Cancellation Policy:

All cancellations and substitutions MUST be in writing and directed to the CPOA Training Coordinator @ kseibles@cpoa.org.  All refunds will be processed within 30 days from the written date of the cancellation request.

Cancellations made 30 calendar days or more from the first day of your registered course will be refunded minus a $30 cancellation fee.

Cancellations made 29 calendar days to 10 calendar days from the first day of your registered course will receive a 50% refund.

Cancellations made 9 calendar days or less from the first day of your registered course are NOT eligible to receive a refund.

*Registrants who cannot attend a course are strongly encouraged to find a substitution.

Substitution Policy:

CPOA encourages you to make a substitution if a student cannot attend the course; substitutions will be accepted prior to the course in writing and on-site.

    Ari Wolfe

Captain Aristotle Wolfe is a 23-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol, currently serving as the Commander of the San Francisco CHP Area. Before promoting to management, Ari served for 10 years as a field and investigations sergeant as well as a range and defensive tactics instructor. He was also a member of the Highway Patrol’s Critical Incident Investigation Team, where he provided policy analysis on officer involved shooting incidents. Ari’s assignments and training have afforded him the opportunity to work with many agencies in a variety of tactical situations, and his subsequent promotion to lieutenant and captain have presented further opportunity to examine critical incident response from a policy perspective. A recent Master’s graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, Ari believes strongly in the concept of teacher as student, valuing the breadth of knowledge and experience in every group of law enforcement professionals he has the opportunity to work with.

    John Tinder

John is a 30-year veteran of law enforcement and recently retired from the Chino Police Department. John served in a variety of assignments and holds several advanced law enforcement instructor certificates. John is a court recognized expert in Police Policy and Practices, Use of Force, Less Lethal Weapons, Taser™ and Traffic Collision Investigation / Reconstruction. John’s critical incident experience involves the response, supervision and documentation of these events. He has excelled as a Use of Force Instructor and has extensive experience in analyzing Use of Force incidents. He is the recipient of the Medal for Bravery, three Life-Saving awards, and three Excellence Awards.   

John was a Field Training Officer for 25 years where he trained both sworn and civilian personnel. He also researched and developed several portions of the department’s Field Training Officer Manual. John instructs in the Officer Involved Shooting and Force Investigation Course for the California POST Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) Program. Some of those topics include, Lawful Force, Human Factors, and Arrest-Related / In-Custody Death Investigations. He is a Certified Litigation Specialist (CLS) in Police and Corrections and a Certified Force Science Analyst. John is the Founder / Owner of a training and consulting company, holds two Bachelor degrees and is currently working towards his Master’s degree. John considers himself a lifetime learner and makes every effort to learn from each course he attends or facilitates. John is an avid pilot and enjoys hiking and spending time with his family.
