Course Description

This course is an overview of a 10-month investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, California Franchise Tax Board and Federal Bureau of Investigation that resulted in the arrest of five leaders involved in a human sex trafficking organization and the forfeiture of approximately three million dollars in assets. The class will discuss how the case started from a street level prostitution investigation to a human trafficking state wiretap, money laundering, tax evasion and asset forfeiture investigation.

The lead investigators will discuss:
• investigative techniques used
• lessons learned to assist you in your investigations
• applicable state asset forfeiture laws

Instructors:

Detective Judy Porter has been a member of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. Detective Porter is currently assigned to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit. She was previously assigned to the Sheriff’s Special Crime Unit as a Human Trafficking investigator. She has had many hours of formal and specialized training in Human Trafficking investigations and has worked several Human Trafficking cases in Ventura County.

Detective Nick Odenath is a 16-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently assigned to the Ventura County Combined Agencies Task Force conducting financial and asset forfeiture investigations as it relates to narcotics and human trafficking crimes. Detective Odenath is also a member of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.

There will be no refund for cancellations received 15 days or less prior to the start date of the course.

Refunds will not be given for no-shows.
