Open Source/Social Media course introduces students to free online resources to assist with their investigations. The goal of this course is to teach students to find the necessary information in order to prevent and/or solve crimes.

Jackie Poon

Staff Sergeant Jackie Poon is an intelligence analyst with the Washington State Army National Guard. He has been in the National Guard for 14 years with 10 of those years serving full-time with the Counter Drug Task Force. SSG Poon deployed twice to Afghanistan in 2009 as a tactical intelligence collector and in 2011-12 as an intelligence analyst for the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force-NEXUS. In between deployments, he served as an intelligence analyst for a National Intelligence agency and as a criminal analyst for DEA in Tacoma, WA. He specializes in communication intelligence, open source intelligence, and social media intelligence. He is currently an instructor for the Western Regional Counter Drug Training Center in Camp Murray, WA.

Law Enforcement and Law Enforcement support (investigators, analysts, and prosecutors). Recommended for entry-level personnel.

The easiest way to register a group of individuals is using our online system. To choose group registration, click the registration link at the top of this page.

Login to our system or create an account. Then, on the registration page, click the second blue button indicating group registration for your agency. On the following screen, click the green button that says “Register an Attendee” and search for attendees you wish to register. Follow the prompts to complete the registration process.

CPOA encourages you to make a substitution if a student cannot attend the course; substitutions will be accepted prior to the course in writing and on-site.
