Course Description:

Whether you are the subject of an IA investigation or conducting the questioning, it is important to fully understand the Peace Officer’s Bill of Rights. Find out what POBR does and doesn’t cover – and when POBR applies.

*This course is now STC certified (Standards & Training for Corrections)

The easiest way to register a group of individuals is using our online system. To choose group registration, click the registration link at the top of this page. Login to our system or create an account. Then, on the registration page, click the second blue button indicating group registration for your agency. On the following screen, click the green button that says “Register an Attendee” and search for attendees you wish to register. Follow the prompts to complete the registration process.

Cancellation Policy:

Effective 8/1/18

All cancellations and substitutions MUST be in writing and directed to the CPOA Training Coordinator @ lserpico@cpoa.org.  All refunds will be processed within 30 days from the written date of the cancellation request.

Cancellations made 30 calendar days or more from the first day of your registered course will be refunded minus a $30 cancellation fee.

Cancellations made 29 calendar days to 10 calendar days from the first day of your registered course will receive a 50% refund.

Cancellations made 9 calendar days or less from the first day of your registered course are NOT eligible to receive a refund.

*Registrants who cannot attend a course are strongly encouraged to find a substitution.

Substitution Policy:

CPOA encourages you to make a substitution if a student cannot attend the course; substitutions will be accepted prior to the course in writing and on-site.

Instructor:

  John Bakhit – Mastagni Holstedt, APC

John H. Bakhit is a Senior Associate with Mastagni Holstedt, APC and is the Managing Attorney of the firm’s Ontario Office. John specializes in labor and employment law representation and handles complex claims arising out of the Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act, the Firefighters Procedural Bill of Rights Act, the California Labor Code, the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act, the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act, and other statutes protecting the rights of employees. John also regularly negotiates complex employment contracts with City, County, and State Agencies. John has been representing Public Safety members for over a decade and has extensive experience representing them in high profile Officer Involved Shootings, critical incidents, criminal investigations, and disciplinary investigations. He frequently instructs courses on Officer Involved Shootings (“OIS”) Investigations, Critical Incident Investigations, the Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights, the Firefighters Procedural Bill of Rights, labor relations issues, and other employment related issues.  Prior to becoming an attorney, John was a police officer with the Oakland Police Department, working in Patrol and the Crime Prevention Unit. While assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit, he regularly wrote and served search warrants, worked undercover, and testified as an expert witness in court. John also completed an internship with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, where he was assigned to the Gang Unit.
