What you will learn:
This course will update you on handling a Pitchess Motion, both procedurally and substantively from the time a motion is received to preparing and arguing opposition to the motion in court, handling the in-camera hearing and appealing erroneous orders. Recent cases will be discussed.
Greg Palmer – Jones & Mayer
Gregory P. Palmer joined the Law Offices of Jones & Mayer as a Senior Associate in 1999. Prior to that, Mr. Palmer spent almost ten years with the Law Offices of Mayer, Coble & Palmer. He has extensive experience acting as a legal advisor to more than 100 chiefs of police and sheriffs throughout the State of California. In that capacity, he has provided legal assistance in all aspects of operating a police department. Mr. Palmer has represented Chiefs of Police in more than three hundred disciplinary appeal hearings and arbitrations with a ninety percent success rate. Mr. Palmer is experienced in handling excessive force, dishonesty, insubordination, off-duty criminal conduct, and other matters. He has appeared in court on Pitchess motions hundreds of times, and has prepared and argued a dozen appellate court writs challenging improper trial court decisions on these motions. Mr. Palmer has also briefed and argued approximately twenty administrative writ petitions on discipline cases and AB 301 issues. Prior to entering the practice of law, he was a police officer for ten years in La Palma, California.

Login to our system or create an account. Then, on the registration page, click the second blue button indicating group registration for your agency. On the following screen, click the green button that says “Register an Attendee” and search for attendees you wish to register. Follow the prompts to complete the registration process.
All cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing. All cancellations are subject to a $15 administrative fee.
There will be no refund for cancellations received 15 days or less prior to the start date of the course. Refunds will not be given for no-shows.
CPOA encourages you to make a substitution if a student cannot attend the course; substitutions will be accepted prior to the course in writing and on-site.
CPOA will not register anyone for a class unless payment has been received in full. If you are not able to provide payment with registration you may provide a credit card to hold the seat. However, all students must be paid in full 10 days prior to the class. If payment is not received and a card has been given to hold the seat, it will be charged.
