Course Description:
Learn the statutory and case law requirements in the dissemination of public records to protect your agency. Topics covered include:
• Overview of the California Public Records Act
• Records exempt from public disclosure
• Fees for PRA requests and other processes
• Record retention requirements
• Evidence Code 1043 and Subpoena Duces Tecum (SDT)
• Discovery in Federal Court

Cancellation Policy:

Effective 8/1/18

All cancellations and substitutions MUST be in writing and directed to the CPOA Training Coordinator at kseibles@cpoa.org.  All refunds will be processed within 30 days from the written date of the cancellation request.

Cancellations made 30 calendar days or more from the first day of your registered course will be refunded minus a $30 cancellation fee.

Cancellations made 29 calendar days to 10 calendar days from the first day of your registered course will receive a 50% refund.

Cancellations made 9 calendar days or less from the first day of your registered course are NOT eligible to receive a refund.

*Registrants who cannot attend a course are strongly encouraged to find a substitution.

Substitution Policy:

CPOA encourages you to make a substitution if a student cannot attend the course; substitutions will be accepted prior to the course in writing and on-site.

Who Should Attend:

This class is open to all sworn, non-sworn and legal professionals in law enforcement. This class is required for the POST Record Supervisor Certificate.

Jason Ewert

Jason M. Ewert is an associate attorney in the Labor Department of Mastagni Holstedt, APC. His practice focuses on the Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act, Fire Fighters Bill of Rights Act, and California’s collective bargaining statutes, including the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act, Dills Act, Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act, Educational Employment Relations Act, and Excluded Employees Bill of Rights Act. He represents clients in disciplinary matters, grievances, and critical incidents. Jason also advises public sector employees on a variety of employment-related matters.

Prior to joining Mastagni Holstedt, Jason served as Deputy City Attorney at the City of San Bernardino, where his primary assignments included advising all City departments regarding employment issues and personnel actions, and representing the City during labor negotiations with employee bargaining units.
