Course Description

The training will focus on real-world investigative capabilities rather than technical theory. Attendees will explore how digital evidence and AI-assisted tools can help analyze large volumes of information—including reports, interviews, jail calls, video, cellular data, social media, geo-location information, and other digital evidence—to identify relationships, contradictions, timelines, patterns, and potential investigative leads.

Lieutenant Vincent “Vince” Dutto

Placer County District Attorney's Office, Bureau of Investigation

Lieutenant Vince Dutto has 25 years of sworn law enforcement experience, including approximately 17 years as a detective and district attorney investigator and eight years in leadership and management roles. He has investigated and supervised major crimes including homicide, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, and other complex cases. Dutto specializes in the practical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in criminal investigations and has helped develop agency policy, evaluate investigative platforms, and integrate AI-assisted analysis into investigative workflows with an emphasis on security, transparency, source verification, and human-led decision making.

James Haggarty

San Mateo County District Attorney's Office

James Haggarty has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience, including 14 years with the San Bruno Police Department and nine years with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. His career includes assignments with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco and as a DEA San Francisco Metro Task Force Officer. Haggarty is a court-certified expert in state and federal court in cell phone data extraction, data analysis, social media analysis, geo-location, and call detail records. He is a graduate of UC Davis and Boston University and the U.S. Secret Service’s National Computer Forensics Institute.

Cancellation Policy
Effective 8/1/18

All cancellations and substitutions MUST be in writing and directed to the CPOA Training Coordinator cpoa@cpoa.org. All refunds will be processed within 30 days from the written date of the cancellation request.

Cancellations made 30 calendar days or more from the first day of your registered course will be refunded minus a $30 cancellation fee.

Cancellations made 29 calendar days to 10 calendar days from the first day of your registered course will receive a 50% refund.

Cancellations made 9 calendar days or less from the first day of your registered course are NOT eligible to receive a refund.

*Registrants who cannot attend a course are strongly encouraged to find a substitution.


Substitution Policy

CPOA encourages you to make a substitution if a student cannot attend the course; substitutions will be accepted prior to the course in writing and on-site.

CPOA will not register anyone for a class unless payment has been received in full. If you are not able to provide payment with registration you may provide a credit card to hold the seat. However, all students must be paid in full 10 days prior to the class. If payment is not received and a card has been given to hold the seat, it will be charged.
