Advocacy & Bill Positions

In addition to giving you a voice in Capitol and in the courtroom on the biggest issues facing policing, CPOA uses advocacy as education to keep you informed.

Advocacy

The California Peace Officers’ Association (CPOA) has an extremely active legislative program. In fact, because CPOA represents the totality of the law enforcement profession, hundreds of bills effecting CPOA members are reviewed each year. We take great care in developing positions on bills during each legislative session, and all legislation is evaluated by CPOA’s Law & Legislation Committee, which exhaustively examines each bill with a potential impact on law enforcement.

Legislative Positions

Each year our Board of Directors approves a Legislative Platform that outlines the public safety issues that CPOA will focus on with the Legislature and Governor.

Our Law & Legislation Committee reviews review the hundreds of public safety bills introduced each year and recommends bill positions to our Legislative Advocate. The Law & Legislation Committee consists of CPOA members from various agencies and ranks across California.
