Legislative Positions

CPOA Law & Legislation Committee

When the Legislature is in session, generally from January to September of each year, CPOA’s Law & Legislation Committee meets regularly to review introduced legislation and to determine a potential CPOA position (support, oppose, watch) on various public safety bills.

Committee membership is over 30 members, consisting of representation from various police and sheriff’s departments across California, as well as advisory members from CHP, DMV Investigations, POST, and the CA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife.

In addition to taking positions on legislation, the committee also determines CPOA’s legislative priorities each year, which is then presented to the association’s board of directors.
